Prologue

Series of missile launches by the Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) or better known as North Korea in recent months have rattled the global capitals. Alam bells have gone off in Seoul, Tokyo, Washington, and Beijing. In the latest incident, North Korea test-fired 4 ballistic missiles, 3 of within 200 miles of the Japanese coast. Chinese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the incident a portent to a “new stage of threat”.

DPRK describes the Missile launchers as an Apparent protest against the ongoing joint military drills between South Korea and the United States of America. It has also voice protest over the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system by the United States in South Korea.A great deal of secrecy Shrouds the political Regime in North Korea little or almost no information flows out of the country. This is the precise reason why the actions of North Korean Regime are so scary. DPRK`s anarchic and volatile behavior continues to raise the political and military temperature in the Far East. In This article, we will focus on the past and the present of the North Korean conundrum.

On July 4, 2017, North Korea held a test launch of their new missile, the Hwasong-14. It’s an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, meaning it has a very long range and is designed to carry a nuclear weapon. Analysts determined that the Hwasong-14 can theoretically reach Alaska, but North Korea still has some major technical hurdles to clear before it becomes a real threat to the US.

Still, three US presidents have now failed to stop North Korea from building a functional ICBM. Donald Trump will probably be the fourth. Watch the video above to learn more about the Hwasong-14 and what this means for North Korea and the world.- Vox Media

Nuclear weapons, Missles- Why?

DPRK see the US as an imperialistic state full of capitalists goons who would take away their freedom and condemn them to slavery and grave sufferings. At least, these words are used to brain wash North Korean minds against the US and outer world. To further consolidate their stand as strong state DPRK official follow “Juche” (military first)  Philosophy to keep Kim regime safe and divert North Korean`s minds away from grievous sufferings from malnutrition, severe human rights violations, the oppression they are facing in their homeland.Well, the question arises why the DPRK is so reluctant to build Nuclear Weapons?

The History

After the splitting of the Korean Peninsula, the DPRK was ruled by the Kim Family and was Defended by their natural enemies South Koreans and Americans by the massive Arsenal of the USSR.After the Korean war, the North Korea (DPRK) came under the influence of the communist power and the South Korea came under the influence of US.The Korean Peninsula act as buffer battle zone for the two super powers during the cold war.The Korean peninsula was spilled in two nations North and South Korea.Technically speaking they are still at war as no “Seize fire Agreement was ever signed between the two states.

After the breakdown of the USSR.The support to The DPRK regarding security and aid stopped. The then Leader of North Korea Kim Jong-il decided to build the Nuclear weapons from their Nuclear reactors which were once supported by the USSR to safeguard their interest against western occupation and threat. After, when Kim Il-sung took over the regime after his father died and was more reluctant to develop a nuclear bomb.As he saw the fall down the Saddam Hussian who was believed by the US to have the weapons of mass destruction.

Current Scenario

King Jong-un, the supreme commander is more adamant to build a bomb at any cost.As the regime believe this to be the only deterrence to the US threats and western sanctions.West tried all most all diplomatic efforts to put the cap on nuke development by DPRK but they failed, they could not turn the DPRK story into an Iranian Deal.DPRK threaten the US to keep out of South Korea and not to engage in any Military affair in the Korean peninsula.Where the US has an alliance with South Korea and Japan against DPRK and the US have pledged to secure them.Developing Nukes would give leverage to DPRK, as this would break the grouping backed by the US in the region but also secure regime and complemented by the weakening of their Natural enemy South Korea and Japan. Further, they have added ICBMs to their list this would them platform to transfer nuclear weapons to large distances and even bomb over the US.They are working on to develop ICBM and they already developed a number of short range missile to target South Korea and Japan. South Korea stations about 62,000 US troops and its military base.DPRK often threaten the US to Nuke them if they intervened in their nuclear program, held military exercise or put economic sanctions.

Even the Chinese leverage diplomacy over DPRK could not do much so say China does not want to do any thing. It is playing a game of engaging the US in the Korean Peninsula as the US engaging china in South China sea dispute through allies in the region.DPRK is acting as a buffer state.China has economic ties with DPRK.China is the largest importer of its coal exporter, provides sealed geographical areas for North Korea trafficked labors to work for propaganda regime and earn hard currency.

What not so good

US over two decades has tried to cap DPRK`s nuclear ambitions. If it failed completely (already partially failed) to stop this nuclear program by a rogue and volatile nation with no credibility. This would not only dangerous to global peace but also began a new rat race for nukes leading to “Nuclear Proliferation” that the US was trying to stop since Clod War.As the Japan and South Korea too would like to defend them selves and even US President Donald Trump as no objection on such motives as he said in one of his speeches.
