Introduction

We are developing nation with 1.25 + billion population. Subsidiaries have at the core of our social sector to improve the life of million and empower them.In the long run, subsidized commodities gave rise to leakages and deprive the targeted citizens of their fair share.Large scale, Technology -enabled, real-time direct transfers can improve economic lives of million of our poor. JAM trinity-Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile would empower this vision. The Trinity can increase economic efficiency by reducing leakages and market distortions.Implementing direct Benefit transfers (DBT) at large scale and in real time remains one of the government`s key objectives.
We need to understand why the need of JAM raised.Any social scheme that involves subsidies or subsidized commodities faces problems like leakages and market distortions. These may take place due to the reasons such as unable to identify certain beneficiaries, no proper channel to transfer such benefits and difficulty in accessing such subsidies on the beneficiary side are the leading causes.Often these loopholes are manipulated by the middleman and other market factors.Ultimately, the genuine targeted citizen and the country at large suffers.

Key Ingredients of  JAM

Now here starts the role of the JAM trinity. To prevent the leakages and maker, the whole system of benefits transfer to the real beneficiaries efficient is the main motive behind JAM.

1.Jan Dhan accounts –So that government can directly transfer benefits to the bank accounts of poor.

2. Aadhaar-  So that government uniquely identify the real beneficiaries at the ground level.

3. Mobile – So that the recipients can access their money.

These three components collectively form JAM.It has enabled the real-time transfer of benefits to the targeted citizens very efficiently.

How JAM works?

Government always had the databases of the citizens to identify the targeted beneficiaries.Mostly these databases like Voter id, Driving License, BPL cards, etc. hampered regarding accuracy and legitimacy. This happens Due to administrative and political discretion lie in granting such ID proofs. Ghost and duplicate names crept in beneficiary’s list, leading to leakages of benefits. The virtue of Aadhaar card lies in the fact of using technology in place of human discretion. Also, using the technology that very simple to understand like iris and fingerprints scans.Biometrically enabled identification thus enabled unique identification of citizen. Creating a database that is reliable and certainly free of ghost and duplicate beneficiaries.
